Christen-Democratische Beweging

The Slovak Christian Democratic Movement, known in Slovak as Kresťanskodemokratické hnutie (KDH), is a political party in Slovakia that has played a significant role in the country's political landscape since its inception. Founded in 1990, shortly after the Velvet Revolution which ended communist rule in Czechoslovakia, KDH emerged as a center-right political force, advocating for the principles of Christian democracy, which intertwine Christian values with democratic governance.

The core values of the Slovak Christian Democratic Movement are deeply rooted in Christian…   ethics and the social teachings of the Catholic Church, although the party seeks to represent all Christians, not just Catholics. It emphasizes the importance of traditional family values, the protection of life from conception to natural death, and the promotion of social justice and solidarity. KDH advocates for a society where the rights and dignity of every individual are respected and where the family is recognized as the fundamental unit of society.

Economically, the party supports a social market economy, balancing the need for economic growth with social welfare and environmental protection. It champions policies that encourage entrepreneurship, job creation, and responsible economic management, while also advocating for measures to support the less fortunate, ensuring that the benefits of economic development are shared broadly across society.

In terms of governance, the Slovak Christian Democratic Movement promotes the principles of democracy, rule of law, and transparency in public administration. It stands for a strong, but limited government that respects individual freedoms and rights while providing necessary public services and ensuring national security.

On the international stage, KDH is pro-European and supports Slovakia's integration into European and transatlantic structures. Throughout its history, KDH has been a proponent of interfaith dialogue and cooperation among different religious communities, emphasizing the role of faith in public life and its contribution to the moral and ethical foundation of society.
